这本”不可读的书”是一门让孩子们超越书本去探索书籍的意义的课程。通过触觉、视觉和感官的探索,学生们将会创作一系列的书籍,通过材料、形状和结构来探索新的可能。

The unreadable book is a course for children to explore beyond text and imagery what a book means. Through tactile, visual and sensorial exploration, students will create a series of books that opens up new narratives through materials, shapes and structures.

The general structure of the course aims to guide students through a four stages process sharing a common theme: books. The first stage is all about materials experimentation and exploration and hands-on activities. The second stage is an introduction to digital fabrication exploring 2 Dimensional design, laser cutting, and introduction to electronic circuits. Stage three is exploring 3 Dimensional Design and 3D printing. Lastly, we apply the previous stages into the making of a book.

学生将有机会设计自己的LED指尖陀螺;用纸折叠成显微镜观察微观世界;调配感光溶液,以阳光为媒介制作蓝晒画;学习塑料的分类,用回收塑料袋制作台灯;学习简单图形化编程软件,制作互动动物玩具等等。在各个项目中会结合教授最新的数字制造技能,包括2D计算机绘图,激光切割,3d建模和打印以及基本电路连接,将高科技融入跨学科的学习,让学生在形成对物理,化学和生物等学科初步印象的同时,也锻炼他们动手DIY技能,培养创新能力,提高艺术审美。课程也会训练学生的演讲表述和团队合作等软技能

Students will have chance designing their own LED spinners base on the same principle; folding paper microscopes and observe micro-worlds; mixing light sensitive chemicals and making cyanotypes with sunlight; learning about plastic types; and learn simple graphical programming software, make interactive animal toys, etc.. The most recent digital fabrication skills will be introduced along the projects, including 2D computer drawing, laser cutting, 3d modeling and printing, and basic electronics. Students get to form a preliminary impression on subject including physics, chemistry, and biology, exercise their hands-on DIY skills, and improve creativity and artistic aesthetics. This course also trains students in soft skills such as presentation and teamwork.

PLANET ART: Make a Machine that Creates Art for Our Planet

During this course, the students will have to create a piece of collaborative art, not by hand-drawing, but using automatic-drawing machines that they will build themselves. Techniques will be taught include Rhino 2D and 3D computer-aided design, 3d printing, laser cutting, engineering (structure building, components fabrication, motors), gcode, etc.

The course will use simple but powerful tools such as storytelling, linguistic expressions, myths, memes, games, or puzzles to analyze students’ intelligence. Yet, they will not learn how to computerize what they already know, but to use code to challenge the computer and themselves about what they don’t know. This will be done through random processes, algorithms, reverse coding, or permutations. Then, though exercises, quizzes, and projects students will be challenged to propose their own artificial intelligent solutions.

你即将变身成正义与和平的英雄,保卫我们共同生活的城市遭到邪恶敌人带来的灾难!学生将通过为期一学期的传统艺术技法及数值科技的学习, 制作个性化的可穿戴作品。导师将以《小英雄联盟》的故事线为基础,在每个项目的开头引导学生的创作思路。在学期的开始,学生将会学习建模,并使用激光切割的技术制作英雄身份徽章,其他的项目包括:将雕塑及拼贴技法与编程结合制成的正义之盾、模块化时装制造技术制成的飞行斗篷,将电路板编程嵌入可穿戴设计的和平手环和面具。在学期最后,学生会完成一套全身的可穿戴,和公众分享创作成果!

You are going to become the hero/heroine of peace and justice that protects our city against disasters brought by the evil enemy! This course focuses on both traditional artistic techniques and digital fabricating technology to create personalized wearable pieces. Each project student creates will solve one of the problems raised up in the fictional story Little Hero(ine) League, a hero(ine) story told by the instructor at the beginning of each project. Student will begin the semester by making a hero(ine) identity badge using laser cutting from a CAD drawing. Other projects include justice shield made by combining sculpting and collaging techniques together with 3D printed parts, flying cape made with modularized fashion design technique, peace-making bracelet and mask that combines programming with wearable design. By the end of the semester, student will create a full body wearable and present the project to the public.

Artificial intelligence introduces students to the core concepts of artificial intelligence through a combination of theory and practice, such as graphics, problem solving, planning, machine learning, automata, logistics systems, data structures and search algorithms.

通过使用小型机器人技术,学生们将通过一系列的课程和课外指导来最终构建一个能够自动循迹及搬运的人工智能物流场景。最后,自动循迹及搬运的人工智能物流机器人将通过实物展览演示呈现。

Artificial intelligence introduces students to the core concepts of artificial intelligence through a combination of theory and practice, such as graphics, problem solving, planning, machine learning, automata, logistics systems, data structures and search algorithms.
Through the use of small robot technology, students will eventually build an artificial intelligence logistics scenario that can automatically track and move through a series of courses and extracurricular guidance. Finally, the artificial intelligence logistics results of automatic tracking and handling will be presented through the exhibition.

新冠病毒COVID-19袭击了地球,危及全人类的生命。人类从未如此脆弱,同时却又如此团结,团结一心地抗争共同的敌人。FABO正招募年轻英才来组建团队,为对抗病毒、解决病毒带给我们生活的各种问题设计方案。我们的设计挑战主题是“疫情期间的生活”,学生将作为设计团队的一员,利用设计思维、数字制造和快速创造来研究、构思和创造研究问题的创新型解决方案。可能的最终成品有电子口罩、消毒设备等工具,也可能会是其它有益健康的项目。学生会学习到如何为一个行业级的项目做决策、制定计划,也将体验到真正的团队合作和问题处理。

The COVID-19 epidemic has hit our planet and the lives of all human beings. Never in history human kind has been so fragile but at the same time so united to fight a common enemy. FABO is recruiting a team of young talents to design solutions to fight the virus and all the problems it has brought into our lives. The Design Challenge is “Life at the time of the epidemic”and the student will become part of a team of designers to use Design Thinking, digital fabrication and rapid prototyping to research, ideate and prototype an innovative solution to the problems researched. Possible outcomes will be electronics face masks, sanitizing devices and other tools and projects related to health and wellbeing.Students will learnhow to take decisions and layout a plan to conduct an industry-level project while experiencing true team work and problem solving.

在这个课程中,我们将探讨与可穿戴技术相关的可能性和技术,运用三维扫描技术和3D打印技术数字化和改造我们自己的身体,用电子传感器来记录我们的生命功能,结合实用功能和美学,利用物理编程设计和制作可穿戴原型。本课程的重点是天体生物学,即关于在太空生活的科学。要求学生们设计一个角色,在课程中运用有趣的方法取代严谨的科学方法,为该角色定义生活方式。学生将对具体的科学论证有所了解,每个人的设计方案都要受相同的条件约束,但由于学生的能力、兴趣和年龄不同,他们最后得出的成果也不尽相同,可能是太空服,也可能是外星生物。

In this workshop, we will explore the many possibilities and techniques related to wearable technology, using 3D scanning and 3D printing to digitize and modify our own body, electronic sensors to record data about our life functions and physical programming to design and fabricate a wearable prototype taking into account its function and aesthetic. The course is focused on Astrobiology, the science behind living in space. Students will design a character and define the flavor of their path in the course, from a more rigorous scientific approach to a more playful one. Specific scientific arguments will be introduced for all students and each one will have the same constraint to deal with in their design solutions, but the outcome can be different depending on the student’s ability, interests  and age, from an astronaut suit to an alien life form.

近年来许多研究证明,通过“以人为中心”的设计创新方法孵化的创业教育项目,成功率比以往大大提高。在此,“设计”不只是为了美化产品、表达创作思路,还是为了解决问题而运用的一系列思维过程。

Recent literature shows that the entrepreneurship education program’s success rate is getting enormously higher by adopting Human-Centered Design Innovation methodology. In this case “design” is not just for beautifying process and result but a whole process of problem solving.

本课程针对高中生的具体情况,对教学内容进行了优化,更易于理解并轻松应用于其他场景。这种解决问题的企业家思维,可以为高中生在应对未来面临的许多困难挑战时提供灵感。潜在的挑战包括如何看待问题,提出自己的观点,如何识别有影响力的具体问题,如何解决问题并对流程和时间进行管理,如何与人合作等等。这些思维和能力都有助于学生在未来在各个领域成为领导者。

The teaching contents has been modified for the high school students which can be quickly understood and easily applied for any other occasion. This entrepreneurial problem-solving thinking can be inspirational in addressing many difficult challenges for high school students in the future. The potential challenges include the problem’s viewpoint, identifying the impactful issues, how to solve a problem, process management, collaboration skills, etc. It all leads up to preparing students for a leading role in future business.

The design of cultural and creative products is actually a process of transforming the classic, fine, abstract, and intangible culture bred by the collection into concrete, tangible, and easily acceptable objects. The reason why it is warmly welcomed by the public is due to the combination of product and culture. While people feel the beauty of the product, they are also infected by the cultural heritage of the product.

本课程将通过形象模仿、纹样运用、色彩提取以及特性引用这四种方式,运用设计学原理和方式来引导学生对文化进行整理和加工,运用在产品设计中。以产品语意学的方式进行思考,将地域性文化特性与产品相结合,开创出蕴含优秀文化的文创产品。

This course will use the four methods of image imitation, pattern application, color extraction and feature citation, and use design principles and methods to guide students to organize and process culture and apply it in product design. Think in the way of product semantics, combine regional cultural characteristics with products, and create cultural creation products that contain excellent culture.
